This church, known also by the name of St. Tadi,
Qara kilisa has been built on top of a hill in the hamelt (black church)
near Chalderan in the township of Maku. It has a 12-sided pyramidal dome.
The eastern part of the church is decorated with black stone slabs, while
slabs of white stone have been used for the same purpose in the middle and
western sections.
In the eastern aisle, which is the
old-east part of the church, there is a chapel, as well as a sacristy hall,
and in the corner, an inscription in Armenian has been carved on stone,
which gives an account of the construction of the old and original building.
Another stone inscription can be seen on the front of the old portal; it has
been carved by the order of Abbas Mirza Qajar and bears the date 1229 A.H.
(1813 A.D.), the year in which the monument has been repaired. On the
exterior, the monument is lavishly decorated with numerous designs in
relief.
